The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE) offers an opportunity to interested learners to choose the following courses/programs through Open and Distance Education mode.
Secondary Programme-
A secondary certificate is equivalent to completing the Xth standard of education. To be eligible for admission to the Secondary Programme, individuals must be at least 14 years of age as of 31st August if they intend to take the first exam in April-May, and 28th or 29th February if they plan to take their first exam in October-November. While there are no restrictions on the selection of subjects and combinations, it is required to choose a minimum of one language. Students are free to pick their subjects from the BOSSE List of Subjects provided below:

- Students are required to select a total of five subjects for their curriculum.
- These subjects must include a minimum of one and a maximum of two language subjects from Group A.
- The remaining subjects can be chosen from Group B.
- Additionally, students have the option to choose two more subjects from either Group A or Group B, but this would incur extra fees according to BOSSE regulations.
Please note that subjects marked with an asterisk (*) encompass both theoretical and practical components.
Senior Secondary Programmes –
The Senior Secondary program is equivalent to class 12th. Those who have successfully passed their secondary education are eligible to enroll in the senior secondary program offered by BOSSE (Board of Secondary and Senior Secondary Education). In order to apply for admission, all applicants need to provide a self-attested copy of their Secondary Certificate.
There is no restriction on the choice of subjects and combinations for the Senior Secondary program, except that the subjects chosen should include at least one language. Learners can choose their subjects from the list of BOSS subjects as mentioned below:

Skill and Vocational Education –
Skill and vocational education is an important component of all education initiatives. The National Education Policy 2020 also lays great emphasis on this so that our youth can become financially independent and earn their livelihood with dignity. BOSSE, Sikkim has also given the most importance to skill and vocational education, which is evident from the name of the board itself which includes ‘Skill Education’ apart from ‘Open Schooling’. Giving importance to skills makes education more inclusive and relevant. The main objective of the skill education program of BOSSE is to create an employable skilled middle-level workforce to fill the unemployment gap. The examination fee is not included in the admission fee. The examination fee should be paid separately within the specified dates. A 50% fee concession on the program fee is admissible to candidates having a bonafide domicile of Sikkim. Board Of Open Schooling and Skill Education at its discretion may award scholarships to meritorious learners.

Students can take admission through the Admission Centers of BOSS or can take admission online by visiting the website www.bosse.ac.in.
- For learners who seek admission in BOSS for Secondary/Senior Secondary/Skill and Vocational Education; Original scanned copies of the below-mentioned documents are required to be submitted while registering for admission.

Examination Scheme
The examinations are conducted twice a year during April-May and October-November at designated examination centers for which notice is issued as per the prescribed date sheet.
- Admission can be taken throughout the year. Admission can be taken either online (12x24x7) or at Study Centers or Admission Centres. Those admitted by the end of August can take their first exam in April-May; Those who take admission till the end of February can take their first exam in October-November.
- The admission is valid for five years and within these five years, the learners get nine chances to appear for the examination to pass and earn the Secondary or Senior Secondary Certificate.
- A debt accumulation system is followed; The credits or marks of each subject passed are kept on record and accumulated till all the subjects are passed as per the passing criteria.
- In order to appear in the examination, candidates are required to register by filling out an examination form and paying the prescribed examination fee along with the form.
- In order to earn the Certificate (Secondary or Senior Secondary), learners must obtain at least 33% marks in each subject and at least 33% in aggregate in 5 subjects including at least one language. Must have passed with 33% marks in theory and practical separately in subjects with practical. The theory comprises 20% continuous assessment, which may be in the form of assignments, projects, etc.
- The question papers will be made available in Hindi and English language only. However, students have the freedom to write answers in their own regional language.
Recognized Institute
The Board Of Open Schooling and Skill Education has set up study centers in recognized schools affiliated with the National or State Board of School Education. These study centers are also called Recognized Institutes (AIs). Bose study centers are in all parts of the country as well as abroad. The major role of study centers is to establish coordination between the learners and the boss. They are there to help the learners in every way.
